HENDERSON, NV – May 9, 2018 – Coral Academy of Science Las Vegas (CASLV) recently announced eighth-grade student Chiara Kieper won a merit award in the Lions International Peace Poster Contest. Her poster was chosen for its originality, artistic merit and portrayal of this year’s theme: “The Future of Peace.” Her artwork of a black bird was meant to resemble a world gone wrong and placed in the top 12 of 23 merit award winners chosen from approximately 600,000 entries drawn by children ages 11 to 13 from 60 countries. Nathan Adelson Hospice to Hold 15th Annual ‘John Anderson – Celebration of Life – Live Butterfly Release’

LAS VEGAS – April 9, 2018 – Nathan Adelson Hospice, Southern Nevada’s largest non-profit hospice, today announced the 15th Annual John Anderson ‘Celebration of Life’ Live Butterfly Release will take place on The Lawn at Downtown Summerlin® at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 29.

Southern Nevada community members are invited to celebrate and honor the memory of lost loved ones during this annual event, which takes place on the large lawn area at the shopping center, 1980 Festival Plaza Drive. The butterfly release will commence at approximately 2:30 p.m. Butterflies can be reserved in advance for $50 a box, with each box containing two butterflies, by contacting Stephanie Forbes at 702.938.3910 or via email at sforbes@nah.org.  Sponsorship opportunities are available.

The event – named after a beloved 23-year Nathan Adelson Hospice employee who passed away in April 2007 – is open to the public. The premise of the butterfly release is based on an American Indian legend for carrying wishes to the heavens. The legend claims that if anyone desired a wish to come true, they had to capture a butterfly and whisper that wish to it. The butterfly, which makes no sound, could not reveal the wish to anyone but the Great Spirit, who hears and sees all. The butterfly carried the wish to the heavens to be granted.

The annual event brings together hundreds of friends and families to release more than 500 butterflies in memory of loved ones who have passed away.

“The ‘Celebration of Life’ annual butterfly release is a poignant event that gives our community the chance to honor loved ones who have completed the journey of life,” said Carole Fisher, president and CEO of Nathan Adelson Hospice. “At Nathan Adelson Hospice, we strive to provide ongoing emotional and spiritual support to patients and families. Since butterflies represent the transition of life, the experience of freeing them is a beautiful gesture and offers a sense of comfort to those who’ve lost someone close.”

Nathan Adelson Hospice Hosts ‘Exploring Behavioral Health Before and At End-Of-Life Care’ Symposium at 14th Annual Multicultural Luncheon & Conference

‘Exploring Behavioral Health Before and At End-Of-Life Care’ Symposium at 14th Annual Multicultural Luncheon & Conference

Nathan Adelson Hospice, Southern Nevada’s largest non-profit hospice, today announced that compelling keynote speaker, David Feldman, Ph.D., will present the Symposium: “Exploring Behavioral Health Before and At End-Of-Life Care” at the 14th Annual Multicultural Luncheon & Conference on Feb. 23, 2018 at the Renaissance Hotel in Las Vegas. Registration is at 9 a.m. with the conference scheduled from 9:30 to 11 a.m., with Continuing Education Units (CEU’s) being offered at this time. The luncheon will begin at 11:30 a.m.

Especially timely for our community, is that Dr. Feldman will address the ways in which people personally grow in the wake of trauma and loss. He will touch on the research that shows how people tend to deepen in their spirituality, discover or deepen relationships, and find important sources of personal strength during post-traumatic growth. He will also present on stories of survivors and practical strategies for nurturing post-traumatic growth. Dr. Feldman recently completed two decades of research on post-traumatic growth and published his findings in his book, “Supersurvivors.”

Dr. Feldman’s presentation will offer the following objectives:

  • Learn about the possibilities of resilience and growth in the aftermath of trauma, loss, illness, and adversity.
  • Understand the research that supports posttraumatic growth.
  • Develop a better understanding of the conditions that support growth after trauma and loss.

“Our annual symposium educates a broad spectrum of community members about ways to positively impact the end-of-life journey and assist family members with the bereavement process,” said Carole Fisher, president and CEO of Nathan Adelson Hospice.

The Multicultural Luncheon unites people from various cultures and faiths. It consistently relays important information and tools for industry professionals and the community regarding healthcare trends and end-of-life care. Tickets are $35 per person for the morning session, $75 for the luncheon only, and $120 for the full-day conference. Sponsorships are also available. For tickets to the luncheon or more information, call Stephanie Forbes at Nathan Adelson Hospice at 702-938-3910 or visit www.nah.org.
