We look forward to helping these students reach their full potential, so that they don’t miss future opportunities because of financial hardship.”

Nathan Adelson Hospice to Hold 14th Annual ‘John Anderson – Celebration of Life – Live Butterfly Release’

Nathan Adelson Hospice

Nathan Adelson Hospice, Southern Nevada’s largest non-profit hospice, today announced the 14th Annual John Anderson ‘Celebration of Life’ Live Butterfly Release will take place on The Lawn at Downtown Summerlin® at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 30.

Southern Nevada community members are invited to celebrate and honor the memory of lost loved ones during this annual event, which takes place this year on the large lawn area at the shopping center, 1980 Festival Plaza Drive. The butterfly release will commence at approximately 2:30 p.m. Butterflies can be reserved in advance for $50 a box, with each box containing two butterflies, by contacting Stephanie Forbes at 702.938.3910 or via email at sforbes@nah.org.  Sponsorship opportunities are available.

The event – named after a beloved 23-year Nathan Adelson Hospice employee who passed away in April 2007 – is open to the public. The premise of the butterfly release is based on an American Indian legend for carrying wishes to the heavens. The legend claims that if anyone desired a wish to come true, they had to capture a butterfly and whisper that wish to it. The butterfly, which makes no sound, could not reveal the wish to anyone but the Great Spirit, who hears and sees all. The butterfly carried the wish to the heavens to be granted.

The annual event brings together hundreds of friends and families to release more than 500 butterflies in memory of loved ones who have died.

“Our annual ‘Celebration of Life’ butterfly release is a beautiful event that gives everyone the opportunity to honor the lives of loved ones who have completed the journey of life,” said Carole Fisher, president and chief executive officer of Nathan Adelson Hospice. “Butterflies represent the delicate but beautiful transition of life, and the gesture of letting them go provides comfort to those who have experienced a difficult loss of a spouse, parent, child, or anyone close. A critical part of our philosophy at Nathan Adelson Hospice is providing emotional and spiritual support to the patients and families left behind.”

Pinot’s Palette to Open Third Las Vegas Location at Town Square

Pinots_Palette_Town_Square_St_Jude_Las_Vegas

The paint-and-sip studio to partner with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital for its grand opening weekend, April 7-8

LAS VEGAS (March 16, 2017) – Visitors at Town Square will soon have a new place to bring out their inner artist.

Pinot’s Palette, the popular paint-and-sip studio, will be bringing more fun and creativity to the community when it opens its third Las Vegas valley studio at Town Square on Friday, April 7. Located on the west end of Town Square, across from the Yard House and just below AMC Town Square 18 theater, it’s the sister studio to the Henderson location in The District at Green Valley and Summerlin location in Boca Park. With a slightly smaller, more intimate feel, the Town Square location will hold up to 48 guests in the main studio and 24 guests in the private party room.

To celebrate its opening, Pinot’s Palette is hosting a Grand Opening celebration on Friday, April 7 and Saturday, April 8. The upscale wine and painting experience is partnering with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital for a weekend of giving back to the community by “Painting It Forward” while patrons fulfill the Pinot’s Palette motto of “Paint. Drink. Have Fun.” Supporters can sign up for either of the two-hour 7 p.m. classes on Friday or Saturday for $39, with 100 percent of the painting proceeds to be donated to St. Jude. Guests interested in signing up for Friday’s “Pinot in Paradise” class can register online at www.pinotspalette.com/townsquare/event/147378 and Saturday’s “Wild Wine Night” class registration is available at www.pinotspalette.com/townsquare/event/153747.

Local husband and wife team Reed and Judy Alewel are owners of all three Pinot’s Palettes in the Las Vegas area. Prior to opening their first studio in Henderson, Reed was vice president of sales and operations for a leading gaming machine manufacturer in Las Vegas, and Judy was a clinical nurse instructor at College of Southern Nevada. In 2014, Reed was laid off by a downsizing at his corporate employer, which led him to open Pinot’s Palette at The District.  Judy has since left her job to focus on their studios, and together they have created 26 full- and part-time jobs in the Valley.

“We’re so thrilled to open our third Las Vegas Valley studio at Town Square where locals and tourists alike can explore their creativity,” said Reed Alewel. “We are honored to be partnering with the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital for our grand opening weekend. They are an extraordinary organization, and we believe that it is important as business owners to give back to the community.”

Pinot’s Palette has been established as the Valley’s most upscale paint-and-sip studio. A great advantage of the franchise is the access to its nationwide library of paintings. With over 1,400 paintings available to guests with a new painting added to the library nearly every day, Pinot’s Palette keeps its content fresh and consistent with current decorating trends. Pinot’s Palette Town Square provides all art supplies needed for each painting class, and is staffed by professional artists that will recreate the featured painting step-by-step with every brushstroke being displayed on a 75-inch monitor. The artists level of instruction is of the highest quality, but this is not an art class. With 22 different wines, and a dozen different beers, along with non-alcoholic offerings, this is a social event. Pinot’s Palette is perfect for date nights, girls’ night out, birthdays, church groups, and more. The three locations will have nearly 100 public classes each month, so there’s something for everyone. More information is available at http://www.pinotspalette.com/townsquare.

Nathan Adelson Hospice’s Pet Therapy Program Holds ‘6th Annual Dog Bed & Blanket Drive’ in Support of Local Animal Shelters During Winter Months

Nathan ADelson Hospice Pet Bed & Blanket Drive

Nathan Adelson Hospice’s Pet Therapy Program is once again helping its furry friends in the local animal shelters. The Pet Therapy Program, which comprises 14 trained therapy dogs, will hold its 6th Annual Dog Bed & Blanket Drive to help keep animals warm this season as the colder weather permeates the Las Vegas valley.

From Jan. 1 through Feb. 28, 2017, all Nathan Adelson Hospice locations will serve as drop-off points for new or gently used items including: Dog and cat beds; blankets; towels; wash cloths; linens; and unopened pet food. The donation drop-off locations are: 4141 Swenson St., Las Vegas; 3150 N. Tenaya Way (near Cheyenne), Suite 350, in the MountainView Medical Office Building, Las Vegas; 2270 E. Commercial Rd., Suite A/B in Pahrump; and 1201 Nevada State Drive in Henderson.

In addition, NetEffect, a full-service provider of computer and information technology support and consulting services for businesses, will serve as a fourth drop-off point. The company is located at 5575 S. Durango Dr., Suite #110, in Las Vegas.

Lisa Browder, manager of the Complementary Therapies Program at Nathan Adelson Hospice, said more than 6,900 items have been donated to local shelters over the last five winter seasons thanks to the generous collections received by community members, volunteers and employees.

“Our Pet Therapy Program is filled with compassionate pet therapists who are thrilled to collect items for local shelter animals,” Browder said.  “We all love to support these animals looking for a forever home and also the shelters that house and take care of them.  In fact, most of the pets working in our program originally came from shelters.”

The Pet Therapy Program is part of the Bonnie Schreck Memorial Complementary Therapies Program, which was created in 1999 as a means by which the hospice could provide a greater range of valuable therapies to patients. Patients and loved ones are able to request various therapies and techniques, such as pet therapy, reiki, reflexology, massage, and aromatherapy, to help ease discomfort by providing a calming and soothing environment. The goal is to provide the most effective, innovative and compassionate care possible. The Pet Therapy Program’s innovative strategy is designed to help improve the quality of life for hospice patients and has been one of the most successful therapies implemented thus far. It has been shown that spending time with a friendly animal can lift depression, lower blood pressure and respiratory rates, and bring comfort.
