Western Elite Proves the Power of Recycling and Education Through CCSD Green Ambassadors Program

Western Elite, a leading Southern Nevada-based recycling company, is striving to make sure local youth understand the importance of recycling. The company has been actively promoting education of the recycling industry through its involvement in the Green Ambassadors Program (GAP) and the Clark County School District.

Western Elite became involved in GAP three years ago to assist with the program that was established to increase recycling awareness among students in CCSD. Western Elite is one of four recycling companies in the community that meets every other month to discuss recycling opportunities within the schools.

Western Elite’s participation in the program involves a $2,000 donation that is matched by the other three partnering companies for a grand total of $8,000. A portion of this amount goes toward an annual scholarship program that awards eight graduating CCSD seniors $500 each. To be considered for the GAP scholarship, students must apply, and submit a letter of recommendation and an essay on how they have contributed to recycling efforts.

The other $4,000 is donated in the form of grants that CCSD teachers can apply for. The grants are distributed to teachers who wish to implement a green program in their schools. The GAP committee decides grant amounts for chosen applicants based on the school’s specific needs.

“This has been a well-received program, and it’s allowed us a great opportunity to educate our community’s youth on the importance of recycling as a life behavior,” said Western Elite Vice President Scott Seastrand.

About Western Elite
Western Elite is a leader in waste management and recycling.  As one of the most prominent recyclers in Nevada, 100 percent of all collected waste materials are processed for recycling materials before shipment to the landfill.

Western Elite’s state-of-the-art facility features the latest technology in engineering and operations, allowing for a complete solution for the collection, storage, removal, recycling and landfill disposal of waste. For more information, visit www.westernelite.com.

Grand Canyon Development Partners to Provide Pro Bono Services to Noah’s Animal House in Northern Nevada

gcdp_logo

LAS VEGAS, NEV. – Aug. 9, 2017 – Noah’s Animal House (NAH), the beloved nonprofit designed for pets of abuse victims, will be expanding statewide to its second facility at the transitional campus of the Committee to Aid Abused Women (CAAW) shelter in Reno. Grand Canyon Development Partners will provide project management and development services at no charge. Like the first facility located in Las Vegas, Noah’s Animal House in Reno will welcome pets of domestic violence victims from all over the country.

The 1,300 square-foot building, scheduled to open in late 2017, will accommodate up to 36 animals and will feature a “Wags & Whiskers” arrival room including family boarding and exam room. The facility will also feature “Wags Boarding” indoor/outdoor dog runs and kennels; the “Feline Sun Room” for cats with multi-use condos that face the morning sun; two glass-enclosed cuddle rooms offering private time with the family; a dog bathing/spa area; and a supply area. The services provided by Grand Canyon Development Partners are estimated to be $40,000 at completion.

In 2007, NAH became the first ever stand-alone full service pet boarding house in the country exclusively for families and pets of domestic violence victims when it opened in Southern Nevada next door and in partnership with The Shade Tree, a shelter for women and children in crisis.  Since that time, NAH has helped more than 1,200 pets stay safe and united with their families by providing nearly 90,000 nights of safe boarding, oftentimes helping survivors throughout their period of crisis. Threats against family pets are often part of domestic violence, and many victims will not leave their abuser because they do not want to leave their pet behind.  NAH empowers victims to seek safety and provides food, shelter and veterinary services free of charge for the pets of survivors of domestic violence that reside at both The Shade Tree Shelter and the soon-to-open campus at CAAW.

Each year, Grand Canyon Development Partners selects a nonprofit organization in need and offers project management and development services at no charge. Additional pro bono projects include Southern Nevada Children First and St. Jude’s Ranch For Children. Recent projects that Grand Canyon Development Partners completed and are currently involved with are The Lucky Dragon Hotel and Casino; The W Hotel at the SLS; Grand Bazaar Shops Las Vegas; SYKES Enterprises, Inc.; Credit One Bank;  Sound Stage for Caesars Entertainment; CenterPlate food venues at LVCVA; and the LINQ.
