Veteran tax policy expert to lead regulatory affairs for the regional firm
The Ferraro Group, a public relations and public affairs firm with offices in Reno, Las Vegas, Carson City and Phoenix, today announced that veteran tax policy expert Barbara Smith Campbell will merge her firm, Consensus LLC., with the regional communications company, effective immediately. Campbell will be responsible for representing the firm’s clients before regulatory agencies, including: the Nevada Division of Insurance, the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada, the Department of Taxation and the Nevada Tax Commission.

“We are very pleased that Barbara has chosen to join our firm,” said Greg Ferraro, president and founder of The Ferraro Group. “Her reputation precedes her, and I don’t think anyone would argue with the sentiment that she is one of the foremost tax policy authorities in Nevada. We could not be more proud to have such a distinguished professional join our team.”

Campbell recently resigned as chair of the Silver State Insurance Health Exchange, a position she held for four years after being appointed by Gov. Brian Sandoval in 2011, to focus on the merger.

“I’m excited to be merging with one of the most prestigious communications companies in the state,” Campbell said. “By combining our companies we will be offering a multi-dimensional talent package to all of our clients.”

Prior to founding Consensus LLC., Campbell served as board chair of the Tax Commission. She was first appointed by Gov. Richard Bryan and subsequently re-appointed by Gov. Bob Miller and Gov. Kenny Guinn. During that time Campbell was also director of finance for Mandalay Development, a subsidiary of Mandalay Resort Group. After the company’s merger with MGM Mirage, she became vice president of finance for MGM Grand Resorts Development. From 1991 to 1995, Campbell represented the state of Nevada as a White House Cabinet Appointee under the President George H. W. Bush administration on the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco.

She also served as Chairman of the Board of Nevada Taxpayers Association and is currently a member of the Community Board of Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center.

In 2014, The Donald W. Reynolds Foundation made a $1 million gift to the University of Nevada, Reno to establish a professorship in honor of Campbell and her many years of dedication and service to the Reynolds Foundation, the University of Nevada, and the state of Nevada.

Nevada Donor Network Donate Life and Love event

Nevada Donor Network Donate Life and Love event

Community partners joining Nevada Donor Network for the day of giving include United Blood Services, UMC Center for Transplantation, Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation, Nathan Adelson Hospice, The Animal Foundation, Las Vegas Rescue Mission & The Shade Tree

(Las Vegas) – February 14 is a day to celebrate love and affection, but it is also a day to raise awareness about the gift of life. In honor of National Donor Day, Nevada Donor Network will host its first-ever “Donate Life & Love” event, from noon to 4 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 14 at Boca Park Fashion Village, 750 S Rampart Blvd.

National Donor Day was started in 1998, with the purpose of increasing awareness and registrations for the five points of life: organs, tissues, marrow, platelets and blood. Nevada Donor Network will sign up those wishing to register as organ, eye and tissue donors; UMC Center for Transplantation will answer questions about living organ donation; United Blood Services will have a “blood mobile” on-site for donations; and Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation will sign up those interested in becoming bone marrow donors.

“We’re calling on the community to come out and learn more about the importance of organ, tissue, eye, blood and bone marrow donations, and hopefully, become a hero to those in need of a second chance at life,” said Nevada Donor Network Community Services Supervisor Kate McCullough. “We’re also very thankful to Boca Park Fashion Village for their support in hosting this event and giving us a platform to raise awareness.”

In addition to life-saving donations, The Animal Foundation will have dogs available for adoption and will collect new dog collars, leashes and pet store gift cards; The Shade Tree will collect new or gently-used clothing for women and new diapers for children; Land Rover Las Vegas will be collecting new or gently used blankets for the Las Vegas Rescue Mission; and Nathan Adelson Hospice will collect food donations and grocery and gas gift cards for its Families in Need program. Special thank you to our sponsors Party USA and Boca Park.

“While National Donor Day is dedicated to ‘life-saving’ donations, we’ve decided to expand its reach to include organizations committed to bettering the quality of life for individuals as well,” said McCullough. “We are very excited to work with Nathan Adelson Hospice, The Animal Foundation, Las Vegas Rescue Mission and The Shade Tree, organizations that provide a variety of support and services to individuals and animals in our community.”

Nathan Adelson Hospice Staffers and Volunteers Embrace New, On-Site Reiki Instruction

Nathan Adelson Hospice logo

Nathan Adelson Hospice logo

(Las Vegas) – As end-of-life care and various therapies remain an important aspect to Nathan Adelson Hospice’s offerings, the hospice has taken another great step in this area by now providing on-site Level I Reiki training and certification.

“Nathan Adelson Hospice has been offering patients and loved ones various services from our Complementary Therapies program for years,” said Lisa Browder, manager of the Bonnie Schreck Memorial Complementary Therapies Program at the hospice. “But until recently, volunteers and staff members had to take Reiki classes off site to become certified. Starting this new program is a great, convenient way to bring this type of therapy to our patients in a more facilitated fashion.”

The addition of a Reiki Master to the Nathan Adelson Hospice staff has made it possible to offer this certified course in-house, making it easier for more people to become qualified. Additionally, they will be teaching the new Reiki practitioners how to effectively use essential oils in their hospice sessions with patients and family members.

“All of these programs are designed to make families and patients more comfortable,” Browder said. “Reiki can help with issues such as stress, grief, anger and anxiety. The ultimate goal is to have experienced Reiki practitioners that can take anticipatory grief appointments.”
Browder said the classes teach staffers and volunteers to feel energy and use it to help patients be more comfortable and relaxed. Many medical practitioners, including chiropractors, are beginning to offer complementary treatments like Reiki.
The complementary services program also offers pet therapy, reflexology, massage, aromatherapy, art therapy and music therapy.
