LAS VEGAS – Sept. 6, 2017 – Coral Academy of Science Las Vegas, a prominent state-sponsored charter school, announced that all five of its campuses will hold a gift card drive over the next few months to support Houston-area schools devastated by Hurricane Harvey.
The gift cards will be used by Texas schools to replenish damaged items, furniture and supplies in the areas most impacted by the hurricane and flooding. Community members are invited to donate the gift cards in any monetary amount from businesses that sell school items, such as: Amazon, Target, Walmart, Office Depot, and more. At the completion of the drive, all gift cards will be sent to the Harris County Department of Education in Houston (HCDE). HCDE will then distribute the cards to the schools that need them the most.
“We at Coral Academy of Science Las Vegas hope that this ‘Students Helping Students’ drive will inspire the Southern Nevada community to come together during Houston’s time of need,” said CASLV Executive Director Ercan Aydogdu. “In the wake of this tragic situation, we feel that every community should join together to support those who have suffered such major losses.”
The Students Helping Students Disaster Relief Drive will continue through the end of October 2017, and all five CASLV campuses will serve as drop-off locations. Gift cards can be dropped off between the hours of 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the following locations:
