Community partners joining Nevada Donor Network for the day of giving include United Blood Services, UMC Center for Transplantation, Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation, Nathan Adelson Hospice, The Animal Foundation, Las Vegas Rescue Mission & The Shade Tree
(Las Vegas) – February 14 is a day to celebrate love and affection, but it is also a day to raise awareness about the gift of life. In honor of National Donor Day, Nevada Donor Network will host its first-ever “Donate Life & Love” event, from noon to 4 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 14 at Boca Park Fashion Village, 750 S Rampart Blvd.
National Donor Day was started in 1998, with the purpose of increasing awareness and registrations for the five points of life: organs, tissues, marrow, platelets and blood. Nevada Donor Network will sign up those wishing to register as organ, eye and tissue donors; UMC Center for Transplantation will answer questions about living organ donation; United Blood Services will have a “blood mobile” on-site for donations; and Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation will sign up those interested in becoming bone marrow donors.
“We’re calling on the community to come out and learn more about the importance of organ, tissue, eye, blood and bone marrow donations, and hopefully, become a hero to those in need of a second chance at life,” said Nevada Donor Network Community Services Supervisor Kate McCullough. “We’re also very thankful to Boca Park Fashion Village for their support in hosting this event and giving us a platform to raise awareness.”
In addition to life-saving donations, The Animal Foundation will have dogs available for adoption and will collect new dog collars, leashes and pet store gift cards; The Shade Tree will collect new or gently-used clothing for women and new diapers for children; Land Rover Las Vegas will be collecting new or gently used blankets for the Las Vegas Rescue Mission; and Nathan Adelson Hospice will collect food donations and grocery and gas gift cards for its Families in Need program. Special thank you to our sponsors Party USA and Boca Park.
“While National Donor Day is dedicated to ‘life-saving’ donations, we’ve decided to expand its reach to include organizations committed to bettering the quality of life for individuals as well,” said McCullough. “We are very excited to work with Nathan Adelson Hospice, The Animal Foundation, Las Vegas Rescue Mission and The Shade Tree, organizations that provide a variety of support and services to individuals and animals in our community.”
